Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is the highlight of the Tommasi family tradition. Never overpowering, this classic wine is characterized by a unique elegance, roundedness and structure.
The Valpolicella Classica region, near Verona, is the place of origin of the two plots which produce the grapes selected for this wine. Tommasi’s Amarone has earthy, spicy and moka undertones, complemented by a persistent bouquet of dried fruits, prunes and succulent black cherries.
Intense ruby red in color, the nose initially reveals fragrant aromas of wild berries, very ripe cherries and black cherries, followed by fresh and mildly spicy notes. Simultaneously dry and soft in the mount, this wine envelops a perfect balance between tannins and acidity. The characteristic and very pleasant tannic texture fades towards a finish of excellent persistence with subtle hints of red fruit.
The grapes are manually selected and harvested. They are then dried for about 3 months in a well-ventilated loft. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel for 25 days at 25°-30°C. 3 years maturation in 35 and 65 hl Slavonian oak casks.
The Winter of 2015/2016 was cold but dry, followed by a rainy and cool Spring. The Summer, not particularly hot, ended with a pleasant Autumn with nice ventilation and high temperatures. The frequent rains of 2016 made it difficult to manage vineyards, however this vintage gave a great wine, characterized by aromatic amplitude and a very balanced and elegant taste. This is a powerful and rich wine which also stands out for a lower residual sugar and a lower pH, pleasantly mineral and balsamic.
