The Frescobaldi family has been producing wine since the early 1300s and is committed to convey the spirit of Tuscany through their products, “the art of what is beautiful and what is good,” as they say.
Respect for nature and authenticity are the cornerstones of this winery, which has deep ties with the Italian artistic and historical heritage.
Their estates respect the principles of sustainable agriculture and were awared the Agriqualita’ certification in 2021.
The 2016 season is a splendid vintage at this winery, where Spring was late and cool and rain abundant. The Summer months were mild until the harvest time in August, where the weather was sunny and warm.
VINEYARD: The castle of Nipozzano, close to the Tuscan Appenines, dates back 1000 years and is located in the hearth of the Chianti Rufina territory, with the mountain slope overlooking the valley of the Arno river.“Nipozzano,” according to popular belief, means “without a well” and attests to the area’s lack of water: an ideal circumstance for grapevines. Great Renaissance artists like Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to purchase the renowned wines of this castle.
VINE: Sangiovese and complementary varieties.
HARVEST: Early September.
VINIFICATION: After the harvest, grapes were transferred in the cellar and destemmed to start the vinification process in thermo-regulated stainless-steel vats. At the end of the year the wine was transferred into barriques for 24 months. Nipozzano 2016 wine spent an additional period in bottle to achieve its exceptional balance.
CHARACTERISTICS: A ruby red colour characterizes this superb vintage. The delicate fruity nose with notes of red berries and ripe citrus is followed by elegants notes of violet and completed with a slight spiciness.
