Organic pearled barley comes from the valley of Mulino Val d’Orcia, along the gentle Tuscan hills.
Very rich in mineral salts, especially phosphorus, barley is a precious alley for those who carry out intellectual work. Furthermore, its many properties make it an excellent emollient, diuretic, and refreshing.
“Pearled” barley is particularly popular because the outer layers of the bark are eliminated. This process allows you to reduce cooking time without losing any fundamental nutritional principles.
SAVE TIME: No soaking needed, cook the barley right away!
CEREAL SOUP: Add 2 cloves of garlic, ginger, and chili pepper to olive oil in a pot on low heat. Combine the barley with other cereals and/or legumes (try our organic pearled spelt or legumes and cereal mix!), add some tomato sauce (Biofavole puree is our top choice), herbs (don’t forget rosemary!), and spices. Stew until the beans are soft and enjoy an incredible treat.
REFRESHING SALAD: Cook the barley, drain it and let it dry. Add cherry tomatoes, fresh celery, olives, capers, carrots, onions, beans, tuna…. Experiment with combinations and discover your favorite barley salad! Great on hot days and served in small bowls as an aperitif or at parties.
